The climate change debate is showing its ugly head with respect to production AG.  Food inflation is real and will most likely get worse.  Worried for our farmers that have current cash flow issues.  The margin for crop production is negative for farmers that were in a drought area.  Won't be able to survive another drought in 2022

The glyphosate shortage is likely real. *****’s New Orleans Roundup plant was down for over a month I heard. Also have heard rumors from China that they are diverting electricity to make  elemental  phosphorus to cities in need of more power. P4 as it’s called is the key ingredient if you look at the roundup molecule. So I suspect the shortage is real.

Price will climb to $60-$70 before Christmas.  There is no product and as it comes in it’s already higher than it was yesterday.  $50-$52 per gallon on 5.4# glyphosate was the price last week.  Residual herbicides, grass herbicides, Metolachlor, clethodim, atrazine, 2,4-D, they are all short and have doubled, tripled and quadrupled in cost.  Any the situation will not improve in 2022.  It will get even worse.

Glyphosate will be one of many chemical shortages this next year and possibly into 2023. Retailers are not trying to scare you. They do not get prices until the product is physically into their shed. It is going to be a long haul for everyone. Do yourself a favor and make a plan with your crop consultant or agronomist and take product in as soon as it’s available.

Bayer's way of just screwing us again!  I don't see how any producer can buy any name brand Bayer products (seed or chems) and feel good about it.  They have controlled and bullied this profession long enough.

Just another way to jack up the price, restrict out put and say there is a shortage. Why cant we have a crop shortage? $30 beans corn wheat milo. N just not sell much to the market. Just wait there will be a diesel shortage next, : for some reason the crude oil does not refine into diesel anymore. $200 gallon. This is one more huge lie to see if they can get away with it and when they have sold you and the prices go down then what they won't refund the quoted price after it goes down! I am not buying jack for one thing I don't have the cash and a poorer than expected crop I don't have the money even if I wanted to borrow it why? So someone else can sleep tight with my cash! hey can say whatever they want this is more BIDEN  BS and everyone is buying in on it I have no proof except it has happened before and the scare tactic always are loudest before things change.

Anyone else old enough to remember American agriculture movement?  Back in the early 80s we tried to do something about this kind of thing. Put a stop to the farmer being low man on the gravy train and actually strike to prove farmers really do feed the world.  The greedy ones said good don’t plant, I’ll double my acres and get filthy rich. So it fell apart. We need to bring it back and get everyone on board this time.  If we don’t stand we will all fall.

I disagree with most above.  I think what’s driving the spot price right now is more panic buying than true long-term shortage/logistics. I do believe there will be strong inflation on crop protection in 22 (got 30-50% pencilled in my breakevens at the moment).  However, I’ll be doing my chemical prepay when I always do, in Dec/Jan at the natural seasonal low. That gives time for logistics to adjust (40’ TEU cost China-US fell drastically just last week) and suppliers to get a better handle on inventories and winter programs.  The watch out is true inflation, especially in the petroleum complex. Energy crisis in Europe and China might have me on the wrong side, but I don’t see any sense in chasing a panic market today.
