Which SP sprayer to get??

Question

Hey friends, it’s time to upgrade to a self-propelled sprayer on our farm, but what to get exactly is the tough part.  I’ve been pulling a 1500 gallon Summers, with 100’ booms for 8 years now, mostly with a JD 9360R. Obviously Deere is king in western Oklahoma, as I’m never more than 20 minutes from a dealership in any direction. 4830’s are popular here, but I feel like I can do better within my budget. I don’t want to go smaller than 1,000 gallon. My budget is $100K-$140K anyone got advice to give? I’m all ears here

After years running several machines and brands it really depends on what your gonna do with it, crops, and the ground your going over. Deere are loud and not really built heavy enough for custom spraying, rogators are designed for custom and significantly quieter and heavier built. Case with new aim system are awesome, new Holland, former Miller, cab is huge, very comfortable but service network is far between. Hagie always seem to be under powered pulling hills, and dont seem to last as long.  Apache is simple to work on but dealers again far between.

Case 120’ booms are nearly impossible to beat.  The ride is so smooth it’s unreal.  I love our case

I’d sell you a 4100hr 4930w120’ booms & 2600 monitor, but I think you’d like the 4940 a lot better. 4830 is popular because of weight and size. I’ve heard from a few mechanics that it’s the best sprayer JD ever built. Not sure I’d agree but to each their own.

We've been custom spraying with Deere for 15 years now and have been very happy. If you can go to a 4940 over a 48 take it. The 48s are very loud compared to the 49s. Also the 4930 and the 4940 that we have had have been very reliable. The balance on the 4940 front to rear is almost as good as the case in my opinion. We just don't get stuck or leave ruts like we used to with the earlier models. The simplicity of the Deere compared to the rogator is huge for us. Not saying they aren't good cuz they are but the rogators are complex and heavy and for us dealers are a long ways apart. We almost bought a case last time but the dealer couldn't promise us any evening or weekend support so we stuck with **** Deere. The case machine is nice though. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

What is so complex on the Rogator?

Rogator.  Just upgraded to a 900B and very happy with it plus we have close rogator service.  The same JD model seemed to be quite a bit more expensive

we have a2008 Hagie sts10 had for 10 years. Love the boom up front  good ride and power now that deere carrys parts  when we need anything they have it.

Get the right technology first then pick the right sprayer for your budget after accounting for the tech. I was comparing a rogator to a Deere and went with the Rogator since it already had all the tech installed and the local dealer gives good service

We tried a Deere but the case won lighter easier to get around , smooth , quiet , good power, reliable , and aim works very well . Try one out for yourself and see for yourself , don’t get color blind

I have a 2012 Rogator Rg1300. It has 2700 hours on it and have had next to nothing for trouble with it. I would highly recommend one.

Had a 4410 for 8 years.
Viper pro.  AIM command.
Awesome accuracy!
Great guidance.   Plenty of power.
Don’t notice if loaded or empty!

We bought an Apache 1220 eight years ago and have never regretted it. The service is great and very timely if you need it. It is a very simple machine to maintain and work on.  We have only had one instance where we need service and they had us going in 3 hours from the phone call. There mechanics work remotely and are required to keep parts on their truck or stored in a mini warehouse/storage shed. It is much lighter than all other self propelled sprayers. In fact, my Apache 1220 loaded is lighter than Deere's 4930 or 4940 empty. Good Luck.

We have a 4430 and 4440 Case IH. Awesome sprayers. If you are ever looking at a Aim Flex system and it has the Pro700 monitor, add 10000 dollars to upgrade to the Viper 4 pro. Just saying.........

Been running Apache's for 10 years now and really like them.  You are not that far from a fantastic Apache dealer in Kansas.  Not as heavy built as the Deere or Rogator, but you can get a lower hour used Apache for less money.  We put about 30,000 acres per year on ours, trade about every 5 years, last couple of times we have traded for ones with 600 or so hours on them.

Alright friends, thanks for the info! I drove a couple hours into TX today to look at a 4940 with 2400 hours on it, and I was fairly impressed by it. I was able to unfold it and spin some circles in an open lot and I think I’m hooked! the deal isn’t 100% done, but I’ll certainly keep you folks posted.

If you tell them you are going to test drive a  Case, you will get a better deal. They don't want you to do that

I have run a 4730 for the last five years until last fall.  It was a fairly dependable machine but very unbalanced with the tank sitting over the back wheels.  When they get a little wear in the suspension system it takes a lot of practice to keep them in the row and on the road. Also I have got in the situation numerous times in soft ground with a loaded tank that it basically would not move. Also very underpowered.  I just upgraded last fall to a 3340 case and I have to say I am very impressed. It has plenty of power. You can not tell a difference between loaded or empty. I have made numerous occasions to go thru ditches loaded that I  would have attempted with my 4730 only when I was almost empty and it eased right thru.   And it’s rock solid on the road.  I really like the aim command system also.  Very versatile and no slobbering nozzles.  The cons are it doesn’t ride as good as Deere air ride, the booms on mine do not have an accumulator for boom suspension, and the guidance is less then ideal because every thing else I own is Deere.  I’m sure if it starts giving me fits I will probably change my tune.

** mechanic told me if you can go straight to the R series. A 4940 is just a glorified 4930. I would like to go bigger as well but he strongly recommended a R series nothing wrong with the red ones never been in agco sprayer I think they are a love, hate relationship

I really like my Apache sprayer.  Service is great!  Don't need much service! Has a 1200 gallon tank...goes up and down steep hills with ease,   easy to use,  I'm 58 and I picked it up pretty quick.  I know there are Apache dealers not to far away in Kansas.  At least get a test drive!  That's what I did.  Did have the top of the line Nitro sprayer and now love the Apache.

The deal is official! Got hooked up with the 4940 and I should be delivered to me in a few days. Salesman said he’d add a year of powertrain warranty and 2 sets of spray tips to get me going with it

Remember that Apache only services sprayers, so even though the dealerships and mechanics are spread out they are not chasing combines, pickers , tractors etc, also much lighter machine with fewer parts, that being said the big Deere machines hold up and can cover a lot of ground quickly if you can find a low hour used one in your budget, have friends and neighbors with case machines and I would buy your pull type before one of them, just my 2 cents

Sounds like  you are just like we were several years ago.  We went with the Apache and never regretted it.  The Rogator’s that are used and in that price range may have wheel motors go bad.  At $10,000 a piece that’s a killer.  Tried that route before the Apache.  Service and parts have been great.  Oh, and we don’t miss the 4 wheel drive either.  Good Luck.  You’ll love the SP.

The Case sprayer are quiet to run. They are balanced alot better than the Deere when loaded. They also handle better in the field. Aim system is awesome
