One of the commitments we’ve made at is to do everything we can to help farmers and farming communities thrive. That’s one of the reasons we launched the Community First Program for Canadian members. What is the Community First program? This program is a true win-win for farmers and their local communities. When Canadian farmers shop on FBN Direct®, they’ll not only have access to competitively priced input options, they’ll see a percentage of every sale donated to a project that matters to their community. So money spent in your community stays in your community. How it works A percentage of every dollar goes towards a Community First project in the geographic area where Direct inputs were purchased. members submit applications to raise funds for local projects in their community. If the project is chosen, you will champion the plans and efforts to result in the project’s success. Applications are reviewed bi-annually (March & October). will then announce which project submissions were successful and schedule a launch meeting to kick off the project. Projects are then funded for a six-month period. Learn more about the FBN Community First Program for Canadian FBN members Successful projects* Here are just a few examples of successful projects that have been funded through the Community First Program. Community centre - Atwater, SK Community First helped add a wheelchair ramp and small deck to the Atwater Community Centre. This provided a more-inclusive gathering space for the community to enjoy for years to come. (Image of Atwater Community Hall provided by Adam Littman) Train station restoration - Edam, SK The Community First program helped fix this historic 1912 built train station. This was the first building many pioneers saw when heading west. The original design was the model for train stations across western Canada until World War II. With a newly repaired roof, the station will continue to inspire new settlers to Edam. (Image of Train Station Restoration provided by Brett Blaquiere) School program - Milk River, AB The small community of Milk River may only have a population of 890 people but it's a community that is full of pride when it comes to athletics. The local high school, Erie Rivers, needed to expand its gymnasium and that’s where the Community First program came into play.  While the gym is only big enough to play basketball, the building’s space will soon be filled with passionate fans sitting in the bleachers. Go Erle Rivers Comets & Novas! How to get involved Applications will be reviewed by ’s leadership team and Account Executives twice a year. Once project submissions are chosen by , a launch meeting will be held to get the project started.  If your project is chosen, you will drive the plans and efforts to bring your project to life. As the project champion, you’ll be directly responsible for the success of your project with support from as well. .  to be considered for the next round.

Recently, we made the hard decision to postpone Farmer2Farmer 2021. Farmer2Farmer VI will be back bigger and better in December 2022. We've heard from hundreds of farmer members who wanted to reconnect at F2F this year after a tough 18 months. With the rapidly changing health and event landscape this fall, we did not feel we could host Farmer2Farmer this winter in the way our members have come to expect. Farmers coming together for unfiltered, honest discussion and fellowship with the goal of improving the prosperity of family farms is what has made F2F a tradition for thousands of farms. When F2F comes back, we want to bring thousands of FBN members together again, in person, with the energy, excitement, and interactions you have come to expect from F2F. Our first obligation will always be to keep our members, their families and our employees safe. Like many of you, we will miss the opportunity to come together to rekindle friendships after being disconnected for so long. We won’t compromise Farmer2Farmer by diminishing its size and the number of farmers we bring together. Instead, always guided by our network, we will double down on our efforts to drive innovation across farming for our now 30,000+ member farms. We plan to reconvene F2F next year with our biggest event ever, arming you with even more insights and benefits for your family farms. Until we meet at Farmer2Farmer VI, please reach out to fellow members online in the FBN Community, and look for upcoming local FBN events in your area with our FBN Community Builders. Have a successful harvest, and we hope to see you in your area soon! Regards, Charles Baron

Day Two of Farmer2Farmer is in the books, and what an amazing day it was. Here’s a quick rundown of some of our favorite moments from the day: 1. He also sat down to chat with Millennial Farmer Zach Johnson and ag reporter Sarah Mock on the Farmer2Farmer V livestream. 2. Data Science Takes the Stage Data is key to our approach to farming, and its time to shine at Farmer2Farmer happened throughout the day. Oakland A’s executive Billy Beane, subject of the book and subsequent film , talked to farmers about how his statistical methods impacted baseball and the broader business world. This methodology ties right in to our goal of helping farmers beat the odds by leveraging data from across millions of acres to supply you the information you need to make smart decisions for your operation. 3. Farm shows are pretty awesome, right? With exciting speakers, interesting panel topics and connections with fellow farmers around every corner, Farmer2FarmerV is exceeding every expectation for what it looks like when farmers get together and share ideas.  But beyond all the hype, why does any of this matter? How does all of this put ®? Here are five ways we’re getting farmers ready to beat the odds in 2020 and beyond. 1. Building a Community of Farmers From Farmer2Farmer Crop Circles to late-night get-togethers, growers who made the trip to Omaha have had a chance to compare notes with fellow network members. You aren’t just points of data, afterall. You are farmers with unique questions, ideas and solutions who are positioned to help one another face today’s farming challenges and opportunities. Event attendees are meeting farmers just like them from across the continent, but they’re also finding themselves face-to-face with experts from a variety of topics that impact the industry today. It’s the power of a network of farmers on full display, right here in Omaha. 2. Demonstrating Why Data Is a Game-Changer You know data is important—maybe it’s even why you joined in the first place. Whether it’s metrics from your own farm or data contributed anonymously by network members in your region, making sense of price and performance data is key to developing a plan for your farm that provides you with the greatest profit potential.  We say that a lot at . But if you’re in Omaha you’ve probably had more than a few “aha” moments, from this morning’s keynote address by Oakland A’s executive Billy Beane on “Moneyball” analytics to any handful of sessions you’ve attended thus far.  Understanding data and how utilizing it will impact your bottom line can help you make the right decisions for your operation. Your success isn’t just a number on a yield monitor. It’s about paying attention to the other factors that come into your cropping decisions every year. 3. Knowing What Matters the Most We know that buying seed and chemicals at great prices is only a portion of what’s on your mind every day. You’re making all sorts of decisions that impact your operation and your family—and we want to help with those, too. Our team is here in Omaha talking about health coverage and taking steps toward greater well-being, crop insurance, securing financing and a host of other topics that impact the lives of farmers—in and out of the combine.  4. Making Your Operation More Sustainable Farming is all about the long game, and we’re here to equip you to succeed at the end of the day. Farmer2Farmer V attendees are hearing about international markets and trade from leaders across the industry, including U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue who was in Omaha today to talk with farmers.  They’re taking advantage of sessions about future crop opportunities and how to make the most of the crops they’re already planting. They can listen in on talks about advances in farm equipment or in what direction the seed industry is headed. This isn’t just a job for today - it’s an industry whose innovations and advances will impact generations to come. 5. Looking Ahead to 2020 and Beyond As the network has grown, so has our ability to deliver more of the tools and support you’ve asked us to provide. We’ve been able to bring more to the table each year as you provide us with additional data to look at. Over the past five years, we’ve been able to expand price transparency and provide you with tools to improve your ability to make the right decisions for your farm. We’re highlighting our newest tools and features at Farmer2Farmer V—such as Savings Finder and our crop marketing tool, HedgeCommand —to help you make decisions for your operation that are systematic, personalized and flexible.  And we’ll be rolling out even more for our members to take advantage of in 2020, from updates for imaging to field-level yield predictions.  Catch Up on Some of the Excitement from Farmer2Farmer Couldn’t make it to Omaha?
