Surfactants are comprised of 2 components, hydrophilic (water soluble) and lipophilic (oil soluble). Nonionic refers that the surfactant carries no positive or negative charge. The hydrophilic portion breaks the surface tension of the spray mixture on the waxy cuticle allowing the herbicide to spread across the leaf surface increasing herbicide penetration. The lipophilic portion acts as a bonding agent to get herbicide to attach to the leaf surface. This page lists all adjuvant products in our database that we have categorized as Nonionic Surfactant. Refer to adjuvant label for exact ingredients, rate of usage varies between herbicides, always follow label directions.
