I once planted until 3 am trying to beat a storm. I think that was pretty late.

I went to Commodity Classic this past February and ********* (so take this with a grain of salt) said he grew 270-bushel corn with a 76-day variety. He farms great ground in Virginia though so probably not really comparable to ND. But it's good to know there is good yield potential in short-season varieties.

Crop insurance consequences are real. Be sure to understand them before you continue.

If you don’t have crop insurance you don’t have anything to worry about. But if you had it planted once and have a original plant date that’s what your crop insurance goes by.
We planted 97 day silage corn June 20th ended up at 15 ton per acre In central ND that is very good on dry land
**********
We planted 97 day corn after wheat on June 22. It’s not for silage.

We'll be putting some corn in for silage on Tuesday after the field peas are off. We often end up with a July corn field so we have space for manure.
Won't make dry corn, but for some extra silage it is at least a little something.
Got mowed by hail last year last week in June planted a 86 day corn on irr at 22000. It made it fine but was only around 120 bushel. Better than nothing. Was uninsurable do to plant date so we took a zero on yield for ins purposes
