2 miles from train wreck….
Ok, we are 2 miles from the train wreck in East Palestine OH. We currently cut n bale about 200 acres (mostly small squares) for horse customers.
We are extremely worried about the effects of the chemicals that were released. There is already a fish die off and reports of chicken and cow mortality.
What should we do/look for? What would you do? New territory for us, just looking for some ideas.

My heart goes out to you. Find a forensic agronomist with experience in case related studies and start documentation (quickly) in soil tests, tissue tests, water tests. GPS and date all references. A toxicoligist from a University may provide some assistance in what to look for as well. Samples are what you need initially before analysis. sell hay with a disclaimer that you are not responsible for any negative effects from the product you sell. If their horses are on pasture and are fine then it’s safe to assume your hay will be fine

I was in the hay business back in the day. You can do the best tests possible you can do and it still might open you up to liability. You would be damaging your customers livestock and your reputation in the hay business. If you are selling hay to horse customers, could you afford to pay for liability of a lost colt out of a Kentucky Derby winner? You probably don't have tremendously fancy ho...
Have a full spectrum dioxins and furans test done. Dioxins are very dangerous for example agent orange.
Also, keep good records. As things go, there will probably be some usda intervention for losses thru various programs. It won’t likely be immediately, but it will be eventually. Pictures, records, video even your own sample collections that you maybe just hold onto for when the time calls for that evidence.
The effects on the groundwater would have to be substantial, I would definitely be testing well water, both for your sake, and any animals
