24 row planter recommendation

We are currently using a 12row 36in planter and are looking to upgrade in the next year or two. We want to go to a 24 row 30in planter with the ability to variable rate population. There are lots of options but we are hoping to find some setup that we can use our current tractor on. We have a 7220 case ih and this may not work for many planters this size.

I have a 260 that is turned to 310hp. 24 row CaseIh 1255 planter with the pto pump. I would not go smaller on the tractor. I you have any hills it makes it work. I wouldn't waste your time trying to make the 7220 work on it. You will be disappointed.

If I remember right Case published their 24 row planter takes 230hp to run, and like ***** said I’d probably go 250+ to be safe. Most 24 rows have a pto driven hydraulic pump, which should help with a lower HP tractor. We’ve been using a 16 row case 1250 and the hydraulics are demanding even on our Mag 310 - just swapped to a 24 row with the pto pump and are eager to try it out next year.

I think you would like it alot better if you get a newer tractor like the 260... I'm not sure the 7220 will be able to do what you need it to do to run a 24 row planter.

It sure is nice having the autosteer plumbed in the tractor and just plug in the planter and the tractor monitor knows how to control it.

Hope this helps ya!

If you plan on running a case tractor... I'd recommend running a case 24 row planter... keep it all the same.

Buy which ever one has the closest dealer and the best service.

We have a case 1250 24 row planter... works good for us... 2 hoppers on the top... 1 for the right 12 rows and 1 for the left 12 rows...

Plant corn and soybeans with it. Just gotta swap out the seed disks in each row.

What do you pull that with? We have been told our 7220 doesn't have enough hydraulic power for that.
