Question

Our farm isn't big on tech but I would like to hear what the pros and cons of a yield monitor can be. We use 2 9510 John Deere combines for harvest

There great if its calibrated. The other day we were harvesting 425 bu. Corn!! LOL.

I yield monitor in itself really does not have any pros or cons, in my opinion.
 There are uses that can be a benefit to your operation.  Like yield mapping.  If you map your yields you can get an idea of areas that yield better than others, and watch trends from year to year.  Use those trends to make amendments to the lower yield areas.  Or move into variable rate fertility.  Putting a little more were the yields are continuously better and maybe applying less were the yields are continually lower.  To maximize the efficiancy of your fertilizer dollars.  You can zone sample your fields with those higher and lower yields areas and find that maybe there is a situation that can be done to the lower areas to bring them up closer to the rest of the field, like micronutrients for instance.  I have used yield maps to see where I continuously have IDC in my soybeans, so I can plant heavier or apply more chelated iron in the furrow in those areas,
