Weaning weights

What are y’all’s average weaning weights and what kind of cattle are you running. Non creep fed or creep fed?

SWKS Gelbvieh cross with several high percentage or purebred Gelbvieh cows bred to Gelbvieh or Balancer bulls. No creep. Calves born Mid Feb.-early April will come off cows in October at 650-700#.  Calves born mid September-early November will wean in early April 550-600#. Cows average right around 1300# at 6 months bred

We april/may ***** (northern alberta) angus X. Usually wean Oct- Nov. This year weaned  Oct 15 and avg was steers 615 ******* 565. No creep. right off cow/pasture

Run Angus cross cows and breed to Charolais bulls. Run cows on grass here in western Nebraska. We have pushed weaning weights to over 700 on steers and around 680 on the heifers. Calve February March and wean first of October.

From the high deserts of New Mexico on native range. Crossbred cows with Angus influence. We have a target calving of last half of March through May with weaning last half of October and our weaning weights have consistently been going up. 5505-650 pounds depending on the date of weaning. If we wait till the first part of November they are definitely over 600 pounds. Moderate frame cows 1100 average with nothing but hard molasses tubs for minerals and some protein.

Red Angus 58 years now. No creep feed. Feed efficiency is important to our genetic improvement and net profit as well as for our customers that use our genetics. We weigh all our cows the same day we wean and weigh our calves. We like a smaller cow 1200 lbs to wean 50% of her weight. The larger cows that wean the same weaning waits consume a lot more.
