Thoughts on using a land roller before planting?

We found that the significant increase in erosion issues the following spring was not worth it.

Not a good idea on fine textured soils. Too much erosion and not enough water soaks in for the crop to use later in the summer.

We roll everything before we plant our black beans and our neighbor rolls all of his soybeans before he plants it works really well.

I roll my sunflower stalks flat to shatter them before we plant our wheat with a shank type air seeder with dutch openers. tried rolling corn stalks but they popped right back up. I do roll my legume crops like lentils, peas and soy beans after we plant. John Deere will roll their fields flat to make nice videos when they run their planters at 10.00 mph.

I always roll my corn stalks before I plant soybeans. It is so nice and smooth I don't need row cleaners and planter floats over the field. Thinking about rolling before planting corn just because of how nice the planter works. We use the 4 wheel drive so it floats better and doesn't leave wheel tracks.

We do the same. No need for trash whippers.

I have on sod ground that had just been turned so kinda clumpy and it worked well.

Absolutely will not plant without rolling first here. Eliminates the need for trash whippers and gives you a much more consistent planting depth. Your beans will all come up on the same day.
