What is a good pre-emerge chemical on Soybeans?

Update*. We settled on generics of Dual and Sencor.

What is a good pre-emerge chemical on Soybeans? We've been using Sonic (Sulfen Cloran), but we've had too many situations where we feel the chemical has hurt the emergence. We disk corn stalks in the fall and field cultivate in the spring, and spray a Liberty/Roundup mix postemerge.

We are transeferring from fall planted rye cover crop to no till soybeans. What pre emergence product will benefit us in killing weeds that include kochia?

I just put down 4oz valor generic. The resistant kochia is our main problem in cool wet spring. It buys time for spring Mtz to get working.I have picture of November valor taken early June

I use 8-10oz of Verdict with MSO and 1qt of Roundup Powermax.

We love Zidua Pro with some metrobuzine. Have had great luck in our higher weed pressure acres the past few years trunning that program.

Valor worked great for me, in no till.

I use authority mtz

We use Matador (3 way of Dual, Pursuit and Metribuzin actives) from Nutrien. Add gly and LV or Dicamba in no till where burndown is needed. Have only had to come back with clethodim (vol corn and any grass escapes) and dicamba post (for waterhemp that gly no longer gets) the last several years.

Here’s our top 3 pick that have officially proven themselves worthy to write a check for ! We ran these 3 on our worst weed problem farms in 2019 and we had the cleanest ground we’ve ever had but I must mention our burn down program is 24D,PowerMax and Sharpen then we no-till beans

# Authority Supreme + Pursuit

# Zidua Pro

# Anthem Max

we are no-til, we use 6 oz sulfentrazone & 1.25 pts generic dual, no injury like sonic.

No problem. I find that Zidua products also can have the same effect on growth as well. There really aren’t any great soybean pre emergence chemicals that don’t hurt emergence in cool wet weather. If you purchase GT/LL/27 soybeans you can use Alite 27 (balance herbicide) and that would eliminate the issue. Metribuzin is another chemical that is hard on beans as well.

We have had the same issues in higher PH soils where the authority products burn the seedlings. In certain situations we have gone to using Boundary. Last year we ran straight fierce but not fierce XLT and got along just fine.

Verified FBN Member (NE)

Your issue is with your seed treatment not the sulfen cloran. Illevo will react negatively under cool and wet conditions with any PPO herbicide. I would use a different seed treatment

I had heard, and witnessed that in the past also. In 2020 we dropped the Illevo, but we still had issues. Great point though, I appreciate that.

Have used a lot of different mixes and try to change them up every couple years. Used valor xlt, sonic, metribuzin and even just 2-4d and have good luck with all of them. We are 100% no till.

Thanks. We’re wanting to find an alternative to the Sulfen Cloran products (ie. Sonic, Authority, etc)

Verified FBN Member (SD)

If you can get your spring tillage done the Authority products work fantastic, we have recently switched to more no-till and in that case we have switched to Zidua-Pro and have had the same results.

We have used Surveil, intimidater, and gramoxone and dual mixture. They all worked well, it all depends on the rain

Fierce XLT is a top shelf long lasting broad leaf product. Always adhere to the label as it contains the "Classic" Sulfy ingredient.

I like the Authority products and have had good control with those. Add some Sharpen to the burn down and that will clean it up

6oz Zidua Pro + 4 oz metribuzin does a great job... however its a cadilac program and probably not needed for full tillage systems

In our area where guys use sonic we use 4oz sonic + 4 oz metribuzin + r/up and low vol or dicamba depending on timing and bean trait.

What part of the sonic was hurting your emergence?

I’m not sure how to answer your question, but we’ve noticed that emergence is either suppressed, or the the seedlings are burned in cold and wet conditions following application
