What is better 10-inch spacing or 12-inch spacing on an air drill seeder? Any thoughts ?

I just bought an air seeder this year. We are all notill. A friend of mine told me to go 12 inch so it can go through the trash better. After using it this fall I agree. An old timer told me an old timer told him when he was starting to go 12 inch and you would never have a crop failure. He said he never had a failure 12 inch. That's my knowledge. Hope it helps.
