John Deere row shut offs

Looking for info on anyone or anywhere that rebuilds or repairs. The electric row shut offs on John Deere planters. $700 for a new one from the local dealer. That’s a bit expensive in my opinion. Thanks

What is wrong with it? If it’s a bearing, crack it open and measure the bearing, a good NAPA or such will be able to find a match for you. We’ve done that on quite a few. I’ll look at our shop later today and see if we have some on the shelf & will get you a bearing number.

I hope so too. Thanks again.

Wish I could be of better help! Hopefully your issue is just a dragging bearing. You can clean up the gear edge if you slightly mar it, penetrating oil might help too in getting it to break free.

Got it! Thank you!

Gentle. Getting either a screw driver or small punch to start a gap. Then work it around the edge until the bearing pops off. Some come off real smooth, some test your patience. Might be a brass insert you have to remove first, trying to picture it in my mind. Seems like one end you had to remove it, the other end you didn’t.

What is the best way to get the old bearings off without damaging the gear?

I’m going to open the others up this morning and see what I find. Thanks for the help.

We’d find one bearing okay and one failed or failing. Never had the eletric part fail. Not saying it couldn’t, though.

Bearing number we found for ours (2008 1770NT) was MRC 1906SZZ.

The one that I opened doesn’t seem to be a bearing. The wires from the plug to the solenoid look good as well. Thanks for the advice though.
