What is the best option for corn on corn tillage with a disk as primary tool?

We plan on doing some corn on corn in sandier soil in central Wi. We have a 12ft disc that we plan to use for primary tillage. Question is whether to chop or not chop stalks after combining? Disc in fall and then another pass in spring before planting? How bad would it hurt us if we didn’t disc this fall?

First a couple questions. In your sandier soils where is your compaction layer? If your not fighting compaction I would recommend chopping then disc. Would likely keep the disc away in the spring and run your field cultivator or other seedbed prep tool.
