Question

What residual herbicide do growers use which is approved for pre & post emergence sweet corn Attribute II GMO seed?

Answer

The Attribute II traits focus largely on insect control, but you can also use 
Liberty (glufosinate) and Roundup (glyphosate) post-emerge.

Those don't provide residual control like you're asking for, so you'd want to include Callisto (mesotrione) and/or Atrazine for residual broadleaf control, and something like a Dual II Magnum (S-metolachlor) or a Harness (acetochlor) for grass control. All 4 of these products can be used pre and/or post-emerge on sweet corn.

Willowood Mesotrione can be used both pre- and post- on sweet corn, just be sure to avoid AMS in any post-emerge application, and us a surfactant like IN-Zorb ADV. Don't exceed a total of 7.5 fl oz per acre on the year, and don't use more than 3 fl oz per acre in your post-emerge pass. Some bleaching of foliage is common in the post-emerge pass, but the lower the rate the less bleaching you'll see. If you decide to use some Atrazine too, you've got to limit it to 2.5 pounds per acre per year. I typically recommend 1 pound pre-emerge and 1 pound post-emerge if needed. The post-emerge application of atrazine has to be done before the corn reaches 12 inches tall. We sell liquid Atrazine that is 4 pounds per gallon, so 1 pound per acre would be 1 quart of the liquid product per acre.

Acetochlor is typically used between 1.5-2 pints per acre, and S-metolachlor is typically used at 1.3 pints per acre. If you are using S-metolachlor, make sure it has a corn safener in it, like the GCS S-Metolachlor product does. Both are quite good residual products against grass weeds, and help out against some broadleaves too.

Answer

For residual we use keystone xl preemerge and atrazine and Moccassin II post emerge. Post emerge on non attribute we use Revulin Q which is accent and callisto combined. You have to watch which attribute series you use since Matriarch is NOT roundup resistant only Liberty. Patriarch is both roundup and liberty resistant. We've worked a few years on these recipes with our agronomist and have really good success.
