For me, being a crop insurance adjuster works well.  We are considered casual, so if busy, just don't accept work.  Risk is sometimes there isn't much work.  Plus, they don't want your crops to fail, so encourage you to get into field, instead having to explain to other employers you can't combine in the rain, even though your combine does have a cab

It has been my experience that if you are working 2000 acres there are better ways to add more income than working a off farm job.  Looking within your operation to find efficacies or other cropping opportunities can easily earn you more income than an off farm job will.
Years ago we were struggling income wise, we looked hard at our operation. What crops and field operations were making us the most money and which were not. To make a long story short, we swapped growing corn and soybeans only to replacing some soybean acres with alfalfa and growing more continuous corn. The other thing that makes us and a lot of money is doing our own spraying. A  while back a FBN member asked on this forum what things make you the most money. If I remember right, doing your own spraying was the most common answer. These two things probably increased our profit by $100k
I am not saying these are the things you should do. What I am saying is you need to think outside the box. There are opportunities inside your operation to save expenses or increase your revenue that far exceed the income a off farm job would provide.
