Beans have a preferable risk-return profile in our area. We are farming upland acres without irrigation, so beans are likely to have a better yield relative to inputs. Additionally, we usually follow beans with wheat, which allows us to take advantage of the nitrogen that the beans fix to decrease input costs. We have the ability to double crop beans or Milo after the wheat the following year. Can follow that with a Winter cover before going back to full season beans.
