What are people using for pulling out stuck equipment?

I am considering purchasing a recovery rope and I am wondering what size to get for pulling out the combine. Where is the best place to get one?

For the sprayer and combine we use a bridle type of tow strap and pull from both sides of the unit. Around these parts most dealers sell or have access to web straps

We have a 50' rope, I believe it's 100,000lbs.  Used it lots over the last 15 years. It's important to use a large clevice to loop chains through to save the the loop at that end. The other loops is safe in the draw bar. Always try the first pull on something stuck and only hit it if we have to. If the pullmtractor stalls it can always be restarted. Saves tearing something up. 
If I had to buy another one I think I'd get a strap.  Much easier to store and hual around.
If our rope gets preticularly muddy I wash it so it can shrink down the way it's supposed to during a pull the next time.  Or let it dry good and shake the dirt out.

Go to your local runnings or fleet farm and buy the biggest tow strap you can find, most are $50-$70 and last fall I pulled even the loaded grain cart out just used 2. Also remember that every time you double it over you double the towing strength. For $75 I can get my stuff out and not need a $1000 fancy rope. And the best part, if you break one, your not out much, just go buy another.

I use a Bubba rope with Bubba rope fabric clevises.  They are rated for 130,000 lbs and are the kinetic energy type.  I wanted to get get all the metal out of the situation.  My neighbor lost an arm and almost died last spring when the chain broke and went flying into the pulling tractor cab.

We like to use 3/4" or 1" cable with loops braided into each end.  You can braid the loops yourself with a little practice, there are also a few videos on YouTube showing how to do it. The only time we've broke a 3/4" cable was pulling the tile plow with an excavator and two other tractors. When a cable breaks it will still recoil, but not nearly to the extent that a rope will.  We also like the fact that a cable isn't as probe to any nicks or cuts like a rope is. Just make sure to keep them dry, they will last for a lifetime if they don't rust up.

We use a 8"x40' tow strap (can't recall the load rating) a 40' tow cable (1" or 1-1/8") with integrated thimbles connected via clevis.

The tow strap is the weakest part of the system by design. If something is gonna break, I want it to pull apart rather than catastrophic failure creating a projectile. Something I learned in the oil patch

Have used it 3x this year, twice to pull out the tractor/seeder, once on the combine.

Can guarantee that we will be using it many more times this year.

Have used them with good results, but be very careful.  I've known a clevis to break or part of the machine that its hooked to and it acts as a slingshot with something coming in your direction with deadly results.  Just be certain that all the components that the rope is hooked to are matched to the rope size.
