Wheat Harvest Accelerates as Row Crop Conditions Face Early Pressure

The latest USDA report highlights a further decline in winter wheat quality and early-season pressure on row crop conditions, with both corn and soybeans landing at the low end of analyst expectations. While corn emergence and soybean planting maintain a steady pace near historical averages, the winter wheat harvest is off to a fast start in the Southern Plains, significantly ahead of last year's pace.

  • Corn conditions held steady at 67% G/E, 2 points below the average trade guess and 4 points below last year.
  • Soybean conditions slipped 1 point to 65% G/E, 3 points below the average trade guess and last years ratings at this time.
  • Winter wheat G/E ratings fell to 25%, trailing average analyst expectations by 2 points and sitting 29 points below last year.
  • Spring wheat conditions improved 5 points to 52% G/E, exceeding the high end of the expected range (est 46-51).
