Cattle price transparency app

So a while back a buddy and I were talking about the lack of transparency in the direct to packer sector of fat cattle sales. It's really hard to find information on what packers are bidding and its harder to know where you're being bid vs where a neighbor might be getting bid, or someone down the road. We felt like there was very little bargaining power on the side of the producer.

Instead of commiserating about it, we decided to do something about it. We wanted to create a producer driven solution to return the power to the producer when marketing your fat cattle direct to packer. Our hope is that this turns into a log term bargaining tool that gives some say back to the guy (or gal) who shoulders all the risk. We want to see our industry thrive for the long term, and we feel that part of that is healthy price discovery in all sectors of it.

So we created CattleBoard. An easy to use app that lets you anonymously submit packer bids. This is intended to prevent potential reprisal. We all know that bids are pretty hard to get direct from the source. This app will live or die based on you, the producer finding it valuable and providing accurate bids. We're doing what farmers do, helping out the neighborhood, its just that the neighborhood is nation wide.

Features include a home page with a running list of submitted bids, a charts page with regional heatmap, and some useful weekly average charts. I'm not actually a fat cattle guy, but I believe in the mission of CattleBoard. My personal favorite tool is the incredibly robust breakeven calculator. I was paying way more for just a calculator from another great brand, I've since cancelled that subscription.
