I have broadcast cereal rye at a bu to the acre and it grew fine.

The last 4 years we have done an Annual Rye mix with radishes and rape seed on our bean fields.  The mix has had great success.  Our best results are following the combine with a seed spreader.  The year we flew it on it did not evenly spread over the field - it ranged from none to triple thick. And you will want rain soon after.  In the corn we drill cereal rye.

As long as you get a good rain, to get good germination, you should be fine.  We have flown rye into standing corn for the last 4 years with good results if it was corn on beans.  Results have been mixed for corn on corn.  Too much residue, I am almost 100% no-till, and not enough moisture will make for a thinner stand.
