Anyone using a "Farm Management Software" such as 'Granular' or "AGworld" Thoughts? Worth it?

Looking into some farm management software such as Granular or Agworld. Really like the Granular set up and the ability it has  in finances, planning, tracking etc but not sure its worth the price. Was wondering what kinda systems people are using and what you suggest? 6000 conventional tillage acres of small grain, cow calf operation, grass hay.

All very good points for l sure! The price is a huge killer but the ease of use and data you can have at your finger tips is very handy as well. But nothing that can’t be used in another platform. Thanks for chiming in. I also take it nobody has looked deep into AGworld?

We use granular. High priced, yes. But they have amazing support. For me, it's cheaper than hiring the people necessary. Granular works extremely well if you track your inventory/contracts/shipments through it. For example, we have scales on-site and weigh everything in-bound and out-bound. We handle well over a million bu of grain. We have multiple customers, some we invoice for grain purchases. Granular is very handy- maybe unequalled- for tracking all this activity. However, if we were delivering to only a few elevators, or if it we didn't have a scale on-site, it would be harder to justify the $. But for us, it saves us from having to hire another person.

We use granular I like it not inpressed with the price. You can do a lot with it. That being said I think it all depends on what technology you are already using, how many people are going to have too use it. And how good the people are with technology

I would agree. Very expensive. I use QuickBooks and then use Finpack to break out cost of production for each Enterprise with a field by field analysis. Finpack is great because it ties my operation to area finbin data.

I haven't demo'd Granula, but am having good luck with Farm Credit's Magnify.  I haven't started to use the management side of it (Figured) but it seems seamless and "easy".  
This is the first year we're using Magnify exclusively for accounting so am hoping there are no glitches my accountant calls with - preliminary mtgs seem positive.
The customer service and help/training provided are excellent.  When I enrolled it was $80 per month.

We use Agworld.  Excellent value!  As with any record system it’s only as good as the info you take the time to put into it.  Very robust system with excellent mobile Capabilities.  Totally different than Granular.  We tried Granular it an amazing program and I’m sure it has its place but Agworld works way better for us at a lot cheeped price.  Great company with excellent suport.  We are a diversified irrigated farm in the Columbia Basin.

Check out Acumen.ag, has some free profitability toolsand a 15 min form.  Can be as specific as you want to be at the field level.  Super easy and super cheap uf you want to add your own costs.

We're using Trimble (was previously agridata solutions which had far better customer service) and quickbooks.  Trimble tracks inventory and cost of production fairly well for us but I feel it is overpriced because of many features they make you pay for that are not used or you can get from fbn.

Can you keep your records for your tax accountant in harvest profit? Will it track loans and loan payments? I currently use QuickBooks for this. QuickBooks is easy to track loans and spending for my tax accountant. Just can't do any analysis of my farm operation. Need a program that will link my actual income and expenses with the yield maps that I have in my climate account.

Farmworks did everything. Accounting, data Enterprise.  You could take your data and make any kind of map
  Put everything in as cash and out put in accrual.  But unfortunately they no longer going to sell the desktop accounting system.  Fired all the people in Indiana.  I know the guys in Indiana and they are starting an new company.  It will not be live for a year but they are looking for farmers input so if you want to be in on the ground floor here is your chance.  I think FBN should partner with them and then we could get the best of all world's.  Accounting tied to marketing, insurance and data.  And price it at a reasonable price.

Same here.  I understand that having good data and being able to drill down by field has value, but at some point I had to ask myself: is this a $$ amount I can pay myself to do with quick books and a spreadsheet?  For $15,000/year I can do the extra work for myself and not ship it off to California.  We raise a lot of specialty crops too so that might make a difference in our appetite for something like granular.

Data privacy is something to consider with any farm management software. The level of financial detail with granular isn't something I feel comfortable allowing the management team at Corteva to mine.

We have used Conservis and Granular. It was the amount of time it took to put the data in that in that was the big cost. For the price it shouldn’t have been that way. Use spread sheets today. We also added a Mixmate chemical mixing system so we were inputting the data twice. The Mixmate returned much better and Granular when out the window. Mixmate is like auto steer on the tractor. Less driver fatigue means more hours of running per day and much easier to go at night. 
I did like the way Granular summed chemical costs by application. So it summed by application 1,  application 2, application 3, etc., not by total roundup, 2-4,D, Dicamba, etc.  Still use that trick to identify which application came in over budget.

What's the price on this AgWorld setup? Not seeing anything on their website. Much like Granular it looks like a call and setup a live demo before we tell you the cost. I wish that company's wouldn't play that game. Just post your prices. I'd rather know up front if its affordable and then schedule a demo vs. waste my time on the demo.

We just dropped Granular after four years with the program. When we first started with them, the rate of development and innovation was very good and but we struggled with making decisions from the data collected.  Once DuPont Pioneer acquired them, the product advancements came to an absolute halt and we couldn’t see the finish line anymore like we could when they were just Granular.

Our farm’s complexity (irrigated acres, dry land fallow rotations and seed production variables) wasn’t something Granular could adequately handle either. It certainly didn’t justify the cost, so we dropped it and continue tracking our records with JD Ops center.

Our next farm dive into farm management systems will be with Harvest Profit. Time will tell if that’s what we are needing on the farm.

We are trying Farm At Hand after using Granular for 2 years.  Farm At Hand doesn't have what other apps can do, but at $500 per year it is affordable and does the basics of what we need.

I looked seriously at Granular price seems steep but it looked like it could pay its way.  
two huge turn offs
1)Granular's  marketing department pulled something smarmy impersonating Harvest Profit in a google search to drive web traffic to the Granular web site.
2)no integration with my truck scale.  would have had to still key in the truck weight numbers in to the program even with a computer sitting next to the scale indicator.

the truck scale software market is so thinly traded and any program to be able to hit one button on the scale head and put in to a computer program is just stupid expensive.

Currently we have all our farm accounting in Easy Farm from Vertical solutions of Minot North Dakota. Easy farm is great for tax accounting but every year I swear I am going to allocate costs back to each field but in the heat of the battle the crop gets planted and sprayed any ability to track records goes to shit.   Managerial accounting is HARD.  Data collection and allocation of costs back to each field is costly and time consuming

We had a software guy use ALPHA and he made it the way we wanted it. No annual payments. From scale tickets to shrinkage to planting and harvest date. Was well worth the money. Been using it over 15 years.

Looked at Granular and decided to go with Harvest Profit. Cheaper, and has great financial analysis, field by field breakdown, user friendly set up, and so forth. If you are looking for a work flow management tool, HP is not that, but also doesn't claim to be.

We tossed around the idea of Granular for a couple of years and they've been pretty persistant but I can't stand the money they want for their product. I was talking to our salesman with Deere and he was saying that there is a "free" program called Granular Insight? We've been installing cell modem's in our equipment that isn't new enough to where it was installed at factory so everything can be done wirelessly. I guess customers get a "voucher" for a free cell modem from deere if we try the program so we're going to put that into our 4930. We already run our prescriptions and variable rating through JD's Op Center. Interested on how it'll all work.

I’m sure Granular is an awesome program, at least it looked like it years ago when we demoed it. The price was way too high for us. At our acres then it would have cost us $18k and that was the lowest per acre price they would go. If we could’ve afforded that we would have rather hired someone part time just to do data entry and corrections. Couldn’t do either so passed and stayed with JD op center, excel, & now FBN. This setup isn’t perfect but it’s affordable.
