What can I use to replace Atrazine with?

Don’t get me wrong, Atrazine is a great chemical and has been for years, but the residual is killing some beans despite “thinking” Iv got my sprayer cleaned out. Iv done the soap thing and it may work, but chemistry tells me that might not be so wise. What’s some options?

Glyphosate 1 qt. + Laudis 2-2.25 oz + Atrazine .75 pt + AMS/surfactant liquid mixture.

That’s typically my post pass. I was just seeing if there was any better options with same mode of action.

1 quart glyphosate, 1 pint of outlook, 3 oz meso, 2# AMS, 1 pint crop oil. Right at $20/ acre on here. Spay on early post.

Are you sure it's carryover and not a sprayer clean out issue. Atrazine is really bad for hanging in boom dead spots because it's a clay based product. If it's a carryover issue then back your rate up to .25#. If using Mesotrione you need to have a little atrazine to maximize the effectiveness of the meso.

It’s hanging on the hoses.

I’ve never had issues cleaning atrazine out using ammonia

I’ve never had an issue with atrazine hurting soybeans. I used to only use ammonia to clean the sprayer out, last few years been using dawn dish soap in addition. The product that will smoke beans the most is flumioxazin. That you have to use what is recommended to clean the tank out, or it will smoke the beans even if you’ve sprayed thousands of gallons in between the preemerge app and post emerg...

I’ve never used it in a hand sprayer. It’s only ever been in there diluted in about 200 gallons of water about a half of a large bottle. It has only ever been in there for a day max.

I quit using Dawn soap, you will find out real quick if you leave it in a hand sprayer it will gell up solid, one year I had to throw away the hand wand on the 4 wheel sprayer, , maybe not rinsed good enough?

Metolachlor, acetachlor, mesotrione are all viable options. Resicore, harness, triple flex are all great options but I would still use a lower rate of atrazine as it does compliment these herbicides but you can you a lot lower rate.

We like the 3-way products like Stalwart 3W, which has atrazine, metolachlor and mesotrione. Three modes of action in one product for more broad-spectrum control. We'd be interested to hear more about your issues with atrazine. If its residual effects on the next crop, this 3-way might not be the way to go. To speak to an FBN Senior Agronomist about your specific needs you can call 605-223-4224. G...
