Merschman seed company has a plot in southern Iowa that they test seed treatments. They plant in January, February, March, April and May. Every year they harvest them all. April is consistently the best yielded but all of them with a polymer coating survive and are harvested.
Be sure you use a good seed treatment!
Just cut these 60 acres of beans that I planted this way in April 8-9th. They ended up averaging 80bu/acre across the field. We had a good year though with plenty of rain so that really helped out.

I’m gonna give some try this week hopefully. Looks like it’s finally going to be dry enough for us to go. I’m probably gonna plant some 4.8’s or 4.9’s.
Northern IL. My brother in college is staying with a family that started planted beans yesterday. And this is an area where most planting doesn't start until April 20.
Not sure what group of beans it was.
We'll see how it goes for them...
We planted some group 4.7's last year on March 28th. They did just ok. They did suffer through some very hot and dry weather from mid May on. We harvested them in late August.
