Is there anyone that has done or is doing baleage? I am going to try a little bit this year but I have never done baleage before. My dad and I farm 1500 acres of alfalfa, triticale, sorghum, barley and *. I would like to try a little bit of each crop to see how they do.
1) Do any of those crops work better than others for baleage?
2) What stage of growth should I cut them at?
3) I have read that some crops need more wraps on the bale than others. Is that true?
What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

we have done alfalfa and it is very good feed. We do rye, wheat , triticale every spring. Best feed value is at 5% of heading. Bermuda grass is good annytime. Fescue is good up to heading, anfter it makes an head they won’t eat it (learned the hard way). All baleage need min of 6 mils of wrap. It needs to be wrapped within 24 hrs of baling to retain feed value and fed within 2 yrs
