What are the Pros and Cons of mowing cornstalks (located in Centeal Iowa)

We mow our stalks simply because our combine isn't big enough to put a chopping head on it. We've been mowing stalks for years. We've broken a few tractor windows too. A few years back we built this guard to hopefully keep rocks from hitting the glass.
