I would agree with what *** wrote.  I am in SW Minnesota and have been strip tilling and no till for awhile now.  It is a mind shift and can certainly be done with guidance from others that have been doing it.  I ask my crop insurance agent how we stack up every year compared to others in the area without wanting to know names.  This is so I stay realistic about what I am doing.  Bottom line though is you need to define what success should look like on your farm then work to make it happen.

I really think you are asking the wrong question.  Please, hear me out.

If strip till is something you want to try, WHY?  Why are you interested in doing tillage in a different way?  Only you can answer that question!  Don't let someones else's thoughts (experienced or not in strip tillage) sway your reasons.  I am saying this because I have been increasing no-till and planting green acres across my farm and plan to get into stip-till soon.  I had and still have other growers in my region say 'it won't work here'.   I found a couple others that had been doing it already and bounce ideas or questions off them for guidance.  Sometime they have tried the idea and sometimes they have not.  We have to be willing to try new things to make our operations achieve the goals we want.  I would never say try something on the whole farm.  My first no till trial was an 80 acre piece and a 35 acre piece.  It worked great, in one of the wettest years, spring through fall.  My yields were the same, with less input costs.

My strong suggestion is this...  If you want to truly explore stip till, find those in your region that are doing it and succeeding at it.  Especially those that are passionate about it.  You don't have to invent it,  others already have.  Learn from them, from their mistakes and successes.  There are alway growers that are willing to share their info, just keep looking til you find them.  Maybe attend a strip til conference.  Please don't let naysayers diminish your curiosity.
