Seed firmers

Question

I'm looking at adding a set of keeton low stick seed firmers with the fertilizer tube in them to my planter. I'm looking for pros and cons specifically with liquid fertilizer if anyone has experience with any type of seed firmer.

we really like them on our farm started using them 2022 wet spring nonstick worked great. Putting alpine fertilizer on with them right into seed row . 100% seed safe product works very well

I've used Schaffert Rebounders for yrs, but I also use Totaly Tubular SS tubes under the seed tube, I feel it puts the fert right where the seed roots can use it.

Hated them.  Broke immediately, never fit right.  Ran starter through them that part worked good.  Keetons themself were junk.  Called several times for help and got No customer service.   Ran a Great Plains at the time.

I had Keeton seed firmers at one time. Hopefully they have been improved. I have heavy clay soils and the soil would just stick to them so that you were basically pulling soil encrusted plastic through the seed trench. They might have worked in lighter or sandy soils.

we are set up with the Totally Tubular fertilizer set up for our starter fertilizer and have had excellent results . Also have Keeton seed firmers without liquid tubes for seed safety as we also apply some nitrogen through the Precision Plantings furrow jets through the wing tubes only . This setup has worked very good for us in our corn production . For soybeans or specialty beans would use the same setup only being cautious on fertilizer types and rates as these are more seed sensitive to fertilizer injury . Donn E. Branton Le Roy , NY

we have them on our olanter and really like them we added the mojo wire for a little more pressure. only down side is tou cant park your planter with the row units on the ground or they lose their spring. but over all we like them

We have used Schaffert Rebounders with fert tubes for years & really like them,10 PSI is plenty. They catch any seeds  that may have bounced up on seed trench side wall. Work great on Case/IH planters. Have used Totally Tubular on JD planters with the Rebounders with great success. We are all no-til. We don't rebuild planters without them.

I agree with ***** 100%.  Kenton is like a dogs tail wagging back and forth.  Bought a Kenzie planter with them on and hated them. We have rocks and it tweaks the plastic and doesn’t stay centered.  Fertilizer ends up on closing wheels.  Rebounders and totally tubular are worth the investment.

The Low Stick design is much improved over the original ones in my opinion. I have had both over the years and I really like the low stick ones. I put out fertilizer with mine as well and they work great for me.
