How can I tell if my corn needs more N to finish out.

My corn recently tasseled and has good color but I am concerned that I may not have enough N to finish the grain fill process. Any idea how to tell?

If you buy pioneer corn you could ask your dealer to run a nitrogen model for you. Im sure other companies offer similar services.

We are doing tests on our operation this year with a late application right at tasseling with 28% and stabilizer. I can see a huge difference in the color at the bottom leaves and upper leaves in comparison to the strips. One of the biggest things I’m having to remember though is the ROI at these high fertilizer prices. Will it return or am I just having a higher yield resulting in a lower net income...we shall see when the combine gets into it.
