What is everyone's opinion of Beck's Hybrids?

Becks is new to Nebraska this year and looking to see what those of you that have bought their seed in previous years think of the seed and the company in general.  Would like to hear about others experiences before we try it.

Beck’s is an outstanding company to do business with.
The Beck family cares a lot about its customers and wants to see them succeed. They are not like other seed companies that have share holders or stock holders that want to see dividends. They are a family owned company and they consider the farmer to be the share holder and that’s why they give back to the farmer with the commitment rewards program. Your right about them being a marketing company but they have very good products priced reasonable. We planted Pioneer for 60 plus years and switched to Beck’s 3 years ago. Our seed prices are cheaper now yields are better and we are getting a reward. I can’t complain.

Becks are master marketers. I think there products are just average yielders. The best thing about Becks is the the research they do & the results they publish. Reread the comments from anonymous from WI & OH.

My becks corn yielded right there with the dekalb and pioneer. The same cannot be said for their soybeans!

As a base supplier of the old "Corn States" technologies, they are simply selling the same genetics and crosses as everyone else each year.  The question becomes, are they doing anything different in their growing and harvesting process to make their seed germinate or develop better?  I would say no, but they do grow most of their own seed.  They do also use Remington Hybreds for some of the more popular crosses, so it is exactly the same seed as most other companies have.  I am always amazed at the number of people that do not realize that there is really only ONE seed company.  Monsanto owns 96% of ALL corn germ plazm.  THEY are the worlds one and only seed company!  Even Pioneer buys its parent material from Monsanto.  Most crosses that have the same GDD's are identical and in a lot of cases, even come from the same seed producer!    If your seed salesman is not explaining all of this to you, ge a new seed salesman!

True that Beck's is overpriced especially their bean because of their duke's mixture of seed treatment.  Performance is average in our area.  Most everything they sell is me-too genetics.

I don't know of any seed companies that aren't marketing companies.  I have planted Beck's for 6 years and am really happy with their value proposition.  They are investing a lot in practical farm research, which is a huge resource for decision making on my operation.  Beck's has the broadest access to genetic diversity of any company that I know of.  I view the commitment rewards program as a completely as a bonus and would do business with them regardless of that program.  They have had and will continue to have a lot of sucess and growth as more people learn how they operate and treat people.

I’ve been with Becks for 5 years have not one complaint. 100% free replant is huge if ya need it and I’ve leased 2 tractors through them and just bought a grain trailer through them and that makes up a lot to if ya factor that into the seed price it cheapens the  ost per acre up alot

Becks used to be reasonably priced seed back prior to the last 10 years. Now they cater to the mega farms and farmers with the bonus items. Just sell the seed for a reasonable price. I can buy or lease my own tractor and go to Cancun on my own with the money saved on the seed price.  ***** is the best marketing CEO there is. I do on farm strip testing and I can never get them to yield for what I need for the price per acre the seed costs. Most of there lines are Pioneer (Corteva) and I can buy Pioneer cheaper and it out yields Becks every time. Shame they went this way but Money talks. I do appreciate that they have not sold out to the Big Chem companies.

I have used Becks seed since 2011 and I think there Hybirds yield with the best of them. There soybeans seem to beat all other varieties in most field trails in Kentucky. All there seed comes with treatment. I like that it seems to help with uniform stands and yield. I was new to cropping when I started and have been able to grow my operation a lot because of there rewards programs. I never thought I could have grown my operation as fast as we did. I would have to give becks credit for allowing us to purchase equipment. It works for me!

When I got back from the nice ride on their very nice jet I tried 5 numbers of Becks corn . 2 of the numbers fell over flat before I could harvest . Yields were not as good as other cheaper companies.

I'm going on my third year with them. The seed prices came cheaper than dekalb and LG. Becks yeilded the same or better. Great company to work with. It probably helps I deal with the largest becks dealer in the US. Better price, good yeilds and over $10,000 in rewards it's been working great for me to plant. They have 100% free replant too!

Im not sure if the gentleman is being truthful about the $60-90/bag price differential.  I’ve found that to be completely false.  Now they are certainly not the cheapest seed out there, but usually close enough.  I can’t buy Dekalb for less than Becks, plus Becks has far superior seed treatment than most.  Yield is always very competitive with Dekalb and Pioneer.  I usually plant corn from 6 different companies every year and find nothing wrong with Becks.  I also have grown several of their beans and have been very pleased with those as well.

I wanted to try 6 bags of Becks seed corn last year to put in a field between Pioneer and Dekalb. I let the dealer pick the variety and we planted it. I didn't ask for free corn but when I received the bill I was surprised by being charged $300+ for those six bags! That is the most expensive corn I have ever planted and probably will never try their seed corn again. When I asked the dealer about it he told me there was nothing he could do because all of the early pay discounts were gone for the year. I don't know about everyone else but usually when you try something most seed companies don't try and see how much they can gouge me. So as far as how Becks seed company treats new customers who want to try their products instead of jumping in blindly with  two feet I think they are terrible! The corn performed on par with the pioneer and was much better than the dekalb because of extreme tar spot pressure this past year.

We liked Becks seed here, often times the cost was the same, the corn was average but the beans did really well in our area. We also like that it was a faith based company and that it is ran privately. We have had good service with them, and their loyalty program is good

Becks is a good company to deal with and productivity is as good as anyone else that I’ve used. They have a lot of genetic diversity on corn. They include seed treatment in the price of seed. The rewards program is outstanding if you are willing to use 100% Becks. I’ve used Becks for 10 years now.

They basically gave genetics from Bayer and Pioneer at a higher price than what you can by similar genetics.  I am a former Becks dealer and found them very hard to sell due to price.

Since we jumped in to Becks 4 years ago, the plots we put in have beaten the competition all four years, our farm average’s are very good, our total seed bill over the last 4 years is less than what we paid for Dekalb over the previous 4 years, and we are picking the higher dollar hybrids, and we got $70,000 worth of equipment that cost $3.00, (a dollar for each item), still have the items and they help our balance sheet, when adding value and paying $3.00, then we get a vacation that takes place in Top of the line resorts and at no cost, except parking at the airport and tips if you so desire. Lots of social interaction involved. Beck’s uses volume buying power on lots of the things they do, the same piece of equipment we are getting on our next 3 year commitment was something like $25,000 through Becks than the dealer. Soybeans at 130,000 seeds per unit was a first for Becks before anyone went to seeds per unit. Main reason was that they like bigger seed size, rather than BB.s and they couldn’t get 140,000 into a normal bag or MiniBulk container. The other companies that went to 140,000 reject some seed varieties because 140,000 will not fit in bags or containers. Seed Is all fully treated and better treatment than anyone in the industry. I have had several comments on quality of treatment and seed being very good. Soybeans haven’t been much different than others but not lagging in our tests. If worried about less beans for your money, cut back your population, tests on or farm show no significant difference between 60,000 population and 130,000 population. Beck’s PFR information is also something no other seed companies do the information is free to anyone. Not just Becks, that research is something that drew me to Becks. I don’t trust the Coop data.

Seed is average but prices are much more expensive than every other brand, usually $60-$90 per bag more than competitors. Soybeans are only 130k seeds per unit. They don’t understand the word “free.” Who do you think is paying for your commitment rewards? Farmers. Complete marketing company.
