Thinking about planting some milo next year on some of my sandy soils. I have never been around the stuff. We have raised some forage sorghum in the past .Only heard the old timers trying it out and it not going well. Just looking to get in touch with some northern growers and see if its worth a shot. Thanks

Are you set up to dry grain? Depending on how far north you are and how spring goes, you might luck out. If we are in by the 1st of June here and have good heat and harvest weather until mid October, it works. But I am just north of Philip. I’ve not seen a whole lot of milo acres on the east side of the state, humidity and dew really don’t go well with milo harvesting. Not sure what your local agronomy guy would tell you. Seems like around here, 2 of 5 years go off without an issue, 2 are ok but have to cut low or use lifters to get it all, then 1 is a wreck and you scrape the ground and lose a bunch. It doesn’t air down well like corn, needs an actual dryer in my opinion. I plan to raise some next year as well.
