July 8 Pest Poll Results: Japanese Beetle Reports

After reports from FBN Agronomists of an earlier than normal presence of Japanese Beetles, we polled FBN members this week to find out what you are seeing. Across the 14 states polled there appears to be a growing presence from southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas across Missouri, Illinois, northern Indiana and into Michigan. In the map below you can see the counties shaded in green where the presence of Japanese Beetles is reported. One point of significance in the data is that over 70% of respondents in Illinois and Indiana stated they have seen pressure already.

It’s important to note that the presence of Japanese Beetles does not necessarily mean they are at economic threshold so we urge you to get out and scout, especially with how early we are seeing them this year (in some cases up to two weeks earlier than what we’d consider “normal”).
