I like the soil warrior. You can run a shank in the fall and switch over to Coulters in the spring. I have not saw any yield advantage to a Coulter in the fall.

we run a Wako LLC big country wagon in a 60' 24 row 30" set up.   it has yetter shark tooth row cleaners a lead coulter then two coulters a head of a shank with two closers to shatter any clods.  you can switch between coulters depending on dry or wet conditions.  I pull it with an 865C two track tractor

We run a 1200 16 row gladiator with nh3 and 6 ton dry montag. And a nifty ag 16 row on 18" tracks with Salford 10 ton dry box w/anh3 ammonia setup. You can get a 12 ton dry box on the nifty ag setup.

They both pull hard in our heavy soils. Have 600hp quads to pull them.

The bar is in front on the nifty ag bar. Nicer to see it working.

What I don't like about the gladiator is its on tires. When the dry tank is full and the ground is soft it sinks in some. It noticeably pulls harder when dry tank is full because bar goes in deeper.  We fru tank is about half empty we gain a 1/2 mph. We had their HD shanks to start with but changed them over to the mole knife style. Made just as good of a strip with mole or a little better and pulled a 1/2mph or so faster. We have also welded on the 1200 units some up front on side where the unit hits a stop to hold straight when out of the ground. The unit is 4-5yrs old now so had some more repairs recently to units like that.

The nifty ag has a toolbar independent of the rear tank on the track assembly so a full tank of dry does not change the depth of the toolbar on it. It is a heavier built machine than the gladiator.

Striping makes a nice planting seed bed for spring with the fertility in the perfect place. Is a win win. Makes a nice mellow seed bed to just go out and plant on.

The only downside to it is if you have rolling ground. Not a good idea to do in fall then for washing away soil. Have to do in spring in this situation.

I run a Niffty Ag  Gen 3 unit with a Montag aircart on a landLuvr track toolbar and carrier for the montag and toolbar.   Nice unit.  12 row.  Only problem is also a advantage.   the particular row units are not parallel link.   If I was on flat ground it would be perfect.   Works great all the time in Soy residue and in flat ground  in cornstalks.  the advantage is no wear and tear on parallel linkage systems.  Less moving parts.  Moves where it needs to allow residue flow. Welcome to talk to anyone interested.

We run a jd 2510 high residue 16row. Works great especially in wet conditions. Been doing strip till for 15 years. The longer you do it the better it gets. We can put less fert. Down because we’re banding and anhydrous is a lot cheaper and faster then dry! Also save moisture.

We like minimum till but believe deep tillage needs to be incorporated every once in awhile.

These machines only are capable of a depth of 12” inches max . We run one of their newer 1200 ‘s 16 row and generally run it 8” deep and have had good success with it . Have been no-till/strip till since 2004” But the best thing we did when we set it up was to equip it to apply part of our nitrogen when we strip till , then later in season apply the balance of our nitrogen. Many people now are equipped this way with great success. Yield booster !

We run 1200. 16 row  over 4000 acres plus and love the job it makes. We have run it fall and spring but preferably run in spring with no problem at 6” dept. we’re set up with the Montag dry tank that we use for urea and pull a liquid cart if needed. This machine is built very durable and has seen lots of rocks, no I take that back, boulders. So very tough row unit.

We have used for many years a yetter 40' toolbar with yetter magnum row units  16x30.  We pull a Salford cart behind that has three tanks. This way we are a blend plant on wheels.  We VRT everything.  With the magnum it is a low soil disturbance unit.  We can run at a high rate of speed covering a lot of acres an hour with low horse power and fuel needs.  We place our fertilizer 5" and plant right over it.  You can run this rig fall, winter of spring.

We don't use one and probably never will and this last winter/spring/summer rapid snow melt and heavy rainfall solidified that thought.  Gully's can form on the strips and give you a washout as deep or deeper than tillage depth making a real mess. They take a lot of HP so take that into account if your wanting to be more efficient with the commodity prices.  Just some things to consider. But there are a lot of guys running them. There are advantages but you have to weigh what's important to you, ease of planting into strips or the risks of possible soil loss from wind and excessive rainfall.

Very good point about washing.  That is why we went low disturbance.  You can’t tell we have even been in the field a week after.  Check out Fenning equipment they are having a webinar on a Monday for strip till.

I run a 1200 8 row pulling a lynx ag air cart. We also changed ours over to a mole knife. I like the low maintenance of the gladiator, but it is a heaving unit and pulls pretty hard. If applying urea in high humidity the lynx cart is the way to go. It uses a belt meter, no more metering augers caking up. I think there is more of a advantage of strip tilling for soybeans. I make my strips for the beans in the fall P,K,S and micros. Make the strip for the corn in the spring with all my N in the strip.

I have a redball, works good but is a bit maintenance heavy.  Bought a blu-jet that I am going to run next spring.

I have cut my fuel use from 3.5 gals per acre to just over 1 for tillage and planting. Also cut time by about 60%. Yields never dipped for me and are now starting to come up a bit.

The weed pressure is going to change and got me the first couple years. I didn't know my chemicals that well so I had to hire a crop consultant to help get a new chemical program going.

Quite a few neighbors who think everything has to be black are starting to ask me questions about it.
